January 13, 2006, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
New York City based artist,
Fred Bendheim, will be exhibiting paintings and works on
paper at Simon Liu Gallery. Mr. Bendheim's paintings are
colorful abstract work that have developed from his earlier
figurative style and from his engagement with the natural
world; Eastern philosophy and meditation. Many of the paintings
are composed of a single line that weaves an ornate pattern
and describes space, containing metaphorical references
to the universe that we inhabit and that is inhabited within.
This will be Fred Bendheim's
thirteenth solo exhibition; his eleventh in New York City.
The show will be curated by Leon Nicholas Kalas, the gallery's
curator. Mr. Bendheim's previous exhibitions have been
at the Mayo Center for Humanities in Scottsdale, AZ, Walter
Wickiser Gallery, chuck Levitan Gallery, The Arsenal, Central
Park, McGrath Galleries, Robert Kidd Gallery, The San Francisco
Museum of Modern Art and others.
Mr. Bendheim, a native
of Arizonna, has also made sculpture, including two commissions
for Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in his home state. The
artist, who is now a resident of Brooklyn, has lived in
New York since 1984. As well as making his own art, he
has worked with school children to create art and to have
it shown publicly. These projects have in the past, taken
the form of giant billboards full of children's art.
