Simon Liu, Inc. - American Traditional Stretcher
  American Traditional Stretcher

This late 19th Century invention is the most popular type of stretcher in America. It features keyed double finger miter joints for the corners and keyed mortise and tenon joints for the crossbars. Supports can be hand crafted in sugar pine or basswood with hardwood keys.

Over the years the basic design has had little change. Production methods have changed from hand tools to production machines, but no one has paid much attention to detail such as key angle and depth, choice of wood, number of crossbars, weight of the stretcher bar, thickness and accuaracy of the tenon. This attention to detail makes my stretchers work better because they are stronger and more stable.

Available in continuous bevel profile in sugar pine and L-shape profile in basswood.
